START REGISTRATION AND WEB SITES– online registrations starts in September 15th 2025. Going in www.girosardegna.it (in Italian language) or www.girosardegna.com (in English language) To register online, you’ll need a password and access the registration system by entering your details and choosing your cycling race and hotel accommodation. The system automatically displays the fee and payment methods. After registering, you can add additional people by completing an additional information form. The online system will always display the remaining hotel room availability. To register on paper, you must download the registration form, complete it, and email it to the organization (girosardegna@gmail.com) along with the payment receipt.
EVERYONE KNOWS THIS BUT … ALWAYS GOOD TO BE REMINDED!!! – the race fee at the GiroSardegna is low because the organisers are volunteers who work passionately and for free for you. Remember this before you yell at someone at a feeding stop of if you find that something’s not quite perfect: our reward is limited to the “grazie” and smile that, fortunately, many participants give us every day.
ARRIVALS BEFORE April 24th AND DEPARTURES AFTER May 1st – no problem for those who wish to extend their stay by arriving earlier or staying a few days: the special rates are indicated in the “Hotel” section. Also in this case the Organization will directly manage everything and there is no need to contact the Hotel Management.
ROUTES AND DIFFICULTY – The GiroSardegna 2026 has medium-long stages and from an elevation point of view it can be defined as medium difficulty! It will be a Giro in which everything is possible as and more than usual… but the runners do the race and there are so many opportunities to stand out!
START/FINISH OF STAGES – The start and finish line is in front of the main hotel, and the starting grid is one of the new features of the 2026 event! In keeping with the UCI Gravel Regulations, and given the significant increase in older and female athletes, starting April 2026 there will not only be separate starts, as usual, for the MedioGiro and GranGiro, but also separate races for young and old, and men and women, who will finally be able to race only against each other without mingling with the men! Here’s the new grid and start layout:
8:45 AM: Men aged 19 to 59 start for the MedioGiro
8:50 AM: Men aged 60 and over start for the MedioGiro
8:55 AM: All women registered for the MedioGiro start
9:00 AM: All women registered for the GranGiro start
9:05 AM: Men aged 60 and over start for the GranGiro
9:10 AM: Men aged 19 to 59 start for the GranGiro
There are NO priorities/preferences in the grids (VIPs, Women, and/or various Privileged Riders!): those who enter first get in front and the others get in behind! The only exceptions to this rule are the Pink and Yellow jerseys, who can line up in their preferred grid.
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE – On every stage there will be a race doctor and at least two ambulances
MECHANICAL ASSISTANCE – a fixed location in the main hotel will be set up. The organisation doesn’t give any ‘wheel change’ or assistance for the front of the race and not for the others: at GiroSardegna all cyclists are equals!
CATEGORIES – we will use the category fixed at an International level by the U.C.I. with the variant allowing four women’s groups:
MAN: Elite up to 29 years – M130/34 M235/39 – M340/44 – M445/49 – M550/54 – M655/59 – M760/64 – M865/69 –
M9 from 70 years and more.
WOMAN: EWS from 19 to 29 years- W1 until 39 – W2 40/49 – W3 from 50 years and more.
Cyclists aged from 15 to 18 years or 70 and above can only take part in the MedioFondo.
The organisers can combine some groups at their discretion
THE ROADS – the roads are all well paved and in Sardinia all the roads involved in the races have no traffic. In the stages the Authorities impose a partial closure of the traffic, therefore, always pay due attention: remember above all that, once the “Fine Corsa” machine has passed, the traffic laws must be respected. The cars in the race will be authorized only upon request.
ROUTE MAPS/STAGE HEIGHT PROFILES – each stage is registered on www.openrunner.com and can be read using an ‘identity code’ which is given for each stage; the individual route is shown on the plan (as a “map” or as a Google satellite image) and the height profile (showing the hills on a height graphic as well as a profile); each stage is exportable by choosing the required format or it can be transferred directly to a GPS.
… THE “SARD PLAINS” – often going along on the bike it seems like you are on the flat but you have the impression that “your legs are not working” then, just afterwards, you feel like “flying”: this is the “PianuraSarda”!
GROUPED TIMES – in two stages probably there will arrive big groups in a sprint finish or there can be many small groups with some distance between them. The members of each group will be ALWAYS assigned to the time of the first one in that group, so there is no need to risk to get a better position.
CLASSIFICATIONS, JERSEYS AND PRIZES – Each evening at 18.00 there will be a short briefing to present the stage for the following day and the day’s prizegiving with symbolic prizes. The overall leaders of the Giro (first man and woman) get the Yellow Jersey for “GranGiro” and the Pink Jersey for “MedioGiro”; each day, the last cyclist (irrespective of sex) arrived at the finish in the maximum time in each path receives the Black Jersey. At the end of the Giro prizes will be awarded to the first 3 riders in the GranGiro and the MedioGiro and the first 3 by age category. Special prizes in the final rankings of each age category: the winner will have the Yellow / Pink jersey; to the first, the second and third classified will have a reduction of the 2027 race fee of 100, 75 and 50 euros respectively!
CLASSIFICATION “BIGGEST GROUP” – at the end of the GiroSardegna the kilometres traveled by all athletes belonging to the same sports group (regardless of participants in the GranGiro, MedioGiro and Tour) are added and we reward the first three companies. As per tradition, the first group will be given a nominal discount voucher valid for the Giro 2027 equal to 10% off the hotel share of that year; at the second a 7% discount coupon; at the third a 4% discount.
POLICING – on the route we will have many motorcyclists who helps the patrol cars of the police; the Carabinieri will preside over the principal road junctions and the Municipal police in the towns.
“TESTIMONIALS” – every year at the GiroSardegna we have hed the presence of several important names (Fabio Aru, Andrea Tafi, Massimiliano Lelli, Daniele Nardello) and everyone liked it: so why not continue?! In 2026, the big names will increase and the adhesion of cyclists (Italian and foreign) with a glorious past is already expected, but among the members there will also be famous sportsmen in other sports: look around and you will recognize them.
“OUR” FACEBOOK – the facebook page goes great with more than 10.000 of suivers, and has become a tool for information and exchange of ideas: there are videos of past editions and photos taken directly by us/you. News and videos will be published on the facebook page immediately during and after the races
