REGISTRATION OPENING AND WEBSITES – the complete event program is online at www.girosardegna.it (in Italian) and www.girosardegna.com (in English). Registration opens on September 15th, 2026
To register online, you obtain a password and enter the registration system by entering your personal information, choosing your cycling route and your hotel accommodation; the system automatically displays the fee and the payment methods; after saving your registration, you can add other people, for whom you will complete an additional data sheet. The online system will always show the remaining hotel room availability.
To register on paper, you must download the registration form, complete it and email it to the Organization (girosardegna@gmail.com) together with the payment receipt.
IT’S BEST TO REMEMBER THIS to be clear: the GiroSardegna registration fee is low because the Organization is run by a non-profit Association and because the collaborators are volunteers who dedicate themselves to the various services, working for free. Participants should keep this in mind if something doesn’t seem done to perfection: the only reward for the collaborators is that “thank you” and that smile that, fortunately, many of them give every day!
ARRIVALS BEFORE April 24th AND DEPARTURES AFTER May 1st – it is possible to request an extension of your stay by arriving earlier or staying a few more days: the cost of the extra days is always the same and the service remains identical. The GiroSardegna Organization directly manages both the room occupancy and the extra days, so, for any problem or information, there is no need to contact your chosen hotel but send an email to girosardegna@gmail.com.
ROUTES AND DIFFICULTY – The 2027 GiroSardegna can be considered of medium difficulty in terms of elevation! It will be a Giro with stages of different characteristics in which everything is possible, as usual and even more so, because the race is made by the riders and there are plenty of opportunities to shine!
RACE STARTS – given the unique nature of the city of Alghero, the starts are equally divided near the two hotels. The rules adopted from the UCI regulations and applied for the first time at the GiroSardegna last year are confirmed: the men’s (young and senior) and women’s grids are separated so that everyone can only race against each other! Here is the grid and start schedule:
8:45 AM: start of Men aged 19 to 59 of the MedioGiro
8:50 AM: start of Men aged 60 and over of the MedioGiro
8:55 AM: start of all Women registered for the MedioGiro
9:00 AM: start of all Women registered for the GranGiro
9:05 AM: start of Men aged 60 and over of the GranGiro
9:10 AM: start of Men aged 19 to 59 of the GranGiro
There are NO priorities or preferences in the grids (VIPs, Women and/or various Privileged Riders!): those who enter first get in front and the others behind! The only exceptions to this rule are the Pink, Yellow and White Jerseys, who can line up in the grid of their choice.
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE – a race doctor and at least two ambulances are present at each stage, following the rules dictated by Italian cycling regulations and the relevant governing body.
MECHANICAL ASSISTANCE – a fixed mechanical assistance station is located in the main hotel. Due to organizational reasons, there will be NO “wheel changes” during the race: at the GiroSardegna the first and last riders all have the same value, and therefore there is no desire to discriminate between competitors!
CATEGORIES – the U.C.I. rules apply, with a variation for women:
MEN: Elite Sport up to 29 years old – M130/34 years old M235/39 – M340/44 – M445/49 – M550/54 – M655/59 – M760/64 – M8 65/69 and M9 70 years old and over.
WOMEN: EWS 19 to 29 years old- W1 up to 39 – W2 40/49 – W3 50 and over
Cyclists aged 15 to 18 or 70 and over may only participate in the MedioGiro routes.
The Organization, at its discretion, may combine some of the men’s and women’s categories.
THE ROADS – the roads are all excellently paved: in the road races the roads are open to traffic (… which, however, is virtually non-existent with rare exceptions!); there will be a partial, rolling closure of 15 minutes, as normally recommended by the Authorities. Therefore, always exercise due caution and remember that, once the “Fine Corsa” car has overtaken you, you can continue the stage, but you must obey the Highway Code.
STAGE MAPS/ELEVATION PROFILES – each stage is recorded on the website www.girosardegna.it and can be reached with an “identification code” indicated in the route description. Openrunner displays the route map (as a “map” or as a Google satellite image) and the elevation profile (displaying the climbs on the elevation graph, including an animated elevation profile); each stage can be exported by choosing the format as needed and transferred to a GPS.
… THE “SARDINIAN PLAIN” – in Sardinia, cyclists often think they’re on flat ground, yet they feel like their legs aren’t turning; immediately afterward, instead, they feel like they’re “flying”: it’s the Sardinian plain!
GROUPED TIMES – in the event of a sprint finish between small or large groups, everyone will ALWAYS be assigned the time of the leader of the group: there’s therefore no need to risk a sprint to gain a position or two.
RANKINGS, JERSEYS AND PRIZES – every evening in the main hotel the daily awards ceremony takes place (symbolic prizes for the first finishers, male and female) along with the briefing presenting the next day’s stage. The GiroSardegna-Classic leader jerseys are awarded (Yellow for the “GranGiro”; Pink for the “MedioGiro”; White for “the youngest”) and the MaglieNere (Black Jerseys) are awarded (to the last cyclist on each route to reach the finish line within the time limit, whether male or female). At the end of the six stages of the GiroSardegna-Classic the following will be awarded:
Overall Classification: the top three men and three women of the GranGiro and the MedioGiro with the final overall Yellow Jersey (GranGiro) and Pink Jersey (MedioGiro), and an invitation to the overall winners for the Race + Hotel at the GiroSardegna 2028.
Category Classifications: the top three in each category of the GranGiro and the MedioGiro with the route winner’s jersey, plus a reduction of €100, €75 and €50 on the GiroSardegna 2028 race fee
At the end of the Gravel stage of the GiroSardegna-Gravel the following will be awarded:
Category Classifications: the winner of each category (Professional and Amateur) will receive the Maglia Tricolore of Italian FCI Champion; 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will receive medals of merit.
At the end of the seven stages of the GiroSardegna-Gold the following will be awarded:
Category Classifications: the top three in each category with the Gold Jersey (GiroSardegna-Gold) as route winner, plus a reduction of €100, €75 and €50 on the GiroSardegna 2028 race fee.
PLEASE NOTE: the reductions are NOT cumulative for athletes present in both the Classic and Gold classifications
LARGEST GROUP CLASSIFICATION – at the end of the GiroSardegna, the kilometers ridden by athletes of the same sports group are added together (regardless of whether they are participating in the GranGiro, MedioGiro and Tour) and the top three teams are awarded prizes. The first Group will receive a personal discount voucher valid for the 2028 Giro equal to 10% of that year’s hotel rate; the second a 7% discount voucher; the third a 4% discount.
LAW ENFORCEMENT – a large “technical escort” of licensed motorcyclists is present during the race; all the main municipal and suburban intersections are patrolled by the Municipal Police and the Carabinieri with the assistance of Civil Protection Associations.
THE “TESTIMONIALS” – the GiroSardegna has always had prominent figures (Fabio Aru, Andrea Tafi, Max Lelli, Daniele Nardello, Yuri Chechi, etc.) and everyone is always happy about it: so why not continue?! In 2027 the participation of cyclists (both Italian and foreign) with glorious pasts is already announced, and among the registered athletes there are always people famous in other sports too: look around and you’ll recognize them.
“OUR” FACEBOOK – the GiroSardegna Facebook page has over 10,000 followers (suiveurs) and has become a tool for information and the exchange of ideas: there are videos of past editions and photos taken directly by participants. News and videos will be published on the Facebook page immediately during and after the races.
