It is always visible the real situation of rooms available in each hotel and, after the registration, you can also make variations, if necessary, and insert the number of your cycling permit of 2017, until February the 28th. It is always possible to do the paper registration (by sending the registration form and payment receipt via email or fax).

Everyone knows this but…always good to be remindend!!!

The race fee at the GiroSardegna is low because THE ORGANISERS ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS WHO WORK PASSIONATELY AND FOR FREE FOR YOU. Remember this before you yell at someone at a feeding stop of if you find that something’s not quite perfect!

Remember that our reward is limited to the “grazie” and smile that, fortunately, many participants give us every day.

Start/Finish of stages

in 2017, ALL stages start and finish in the main street of Santa Teresa Gallura (2 km from the two hotels) the grids will be formed directly in the street. At GiroSardegna we ALWAYS have two separate grids (MedioGiro and GranGiro) with separate starts. No precedence or preference for women o VIPs or ex-pros: those who get into the grid first will be at the front and the others will be behind them!

Arrival in the hotel before 22/4 an departures after 28/04

Both hotels open for GiroSardegna; the direction of the hotel, depending on the number of requests, will decide whether to anticipate the opening: please report your needs during registration and the hotel will be open in advance if the number of applicants will be evaluated sufficient; otherwise those arriving before Saturday 22 will be housed in hotels of the same level in the city.

Categories

We will use the category system from Assofondo (those used at an International level supported by the U.C.I. with the variant allowing three women’s groups):

1 up to 29 years – 2 30/34 3 35/39 – 4 40/44 – 5 45/49 – 6 50/54 – 7 55/59 – 8 60/64 – 9 65/69 – 10 from 70 upwards

The three women’s categories are: W1 up to 44 years – W2 45/59 – W3 from 60 upwards

Cyclists aged from 15 to 18 years or 70 and above can only take part in the MedioFondo.

The organisers can combine some groups at their discretion

The roads

The streets are well paved and the Organization will seek to achieve full closure of car traffic. We must consider that in Sardinia almost all roads affected by the Giro have a little traffic … but be careful in case that the authorities would allow only a partial closure and a part of the track will be open. The cars in the race will only be only allowed upon request.

Route maps/stage height profiles

Each stage is registered on www.openrunner.com and can be read using an ‘identity code’ which is given for each stage; the individual route is shown on the plan (as a “map” or as a Google satellite image) and the height profile (showing the hills on a height graphic as well as a profile); each stage is exportable by choosing the required format or it can be transferred directly to a GPS.

Routes and difficulty

The GiroSardegna in 2017 can be defined “easy” in terms of altitude … but then not so! It is true that there are no difficult climbs, but the race is made by the runners and the opportunities to make an impact are lots! In particular this is valid in the individual time trial (flat and fast), in the “Granfondo Costa Smeralda” (from the beautiful and scenic drive on the sea) and the fifth stage with uphill finish! Will once again be a GiroSardegna where anything is possible … and as more than usual!

Team classification and prizes

The “Team Ranking” at GiroSardegna 2017, based on the sum of kilometers cycled by the athletes of the same sporting group is replaced by “Team Ranking – Decathlon”:

EVERYONE KNOWS THIS BUT … ALWAYS GOOD TO BE REMINDED!!!

The race fee at the GiroSardegna is low because THE ORGANISERS ARE VOLUNTEERS WHO WORK PASSIONATELY AND FOR FREE FOR YOU. Remember this before you yell at someone at a feeding stop of if you find that something’s not quite perfect!

Start/finish of stages

In 2016, ALL stages start in front of the main hotel and finish in the main street of Budoni! No transfers to do and the grids will be formed directly in the spacious interiors of the Hotel. At GiroSardegna we ALWAYS have two separate grids (MedioGiro and GranGiro) with separate starts. No precedence or preference for women o VIPs or ex-pros: those who get into the grid first will be at the front and the others will be behind them!

Medical Assistance

On every stage there will be a race doctor and at least two ambulances

Mechanical Assistance

A fixed location in the main hotel will be set up. The organisation doesn’t give any ‘wheel change’ or assistance for the front of the race and not for the others: at GiroSardegna all cyclists are equals!

Grouped times

In two stages probably there will arrive big groups in a sprint finish or there can be many small groups with some distance between them. ALWAYS, the members of each group will be assigned the time of the first one in that group, so there is no need to risk to get a better position.

Classifications, Jerseys and prizes

Each evening at 18.00 in the meeting hall of the main hotel there will be a short briefing to present the stage for the following day and the day’s prizegiving with symbolic prizes. The overall leaders of the Giro (first man and woman) get the Yellow Jersey for “GranGiro” and the Pink Jersey for “MedioGiro”; each day, the last cyclist (irrespective of sex) arrived at the finish in the maximum time in each path receives the Black Jersey. At the end of the Giro prizes will be awarded to the first 3 riders in the GranGiro and the MedioGiro and the first 3 by age category; the leader of each category will receive the final winner’s jersey.

The “Sard plains”

Often going along on the bike it seems like you are on the flat but you have the impression that “your legs are not working” then, just afterwards, you feel like “flying”: these are the “Sard Plains”!

Freebies

It is still in the denition, but probably it will a beautifull technical Jackets designed and produced by ALE’ (the main sponsor of GiroSardegna) that will complete the gadget given last year.

Testimonials

Over the years at the GiroSardegna we have had several cyclists with a glorious past (Massimiliano Lelli, Gianni Motta, Stephen Roche, Karl Zoetemelk, etc) or sportsmen famous in other fields: look around and you will recognise them.

Policing

On the route we will have many motorcyclists who helps the patrol cars of the police; the Carabinieri will preside over the principal road junctions and the Municipal police in the towns.
